GAC and Huawei Collaborate to Launch Premium Smart EV Brand

Collaborative effort to introduce advanced smart car solutions with a focus on innovative energy technologies.

Huawei and Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) have announced a partnership to create a high-end smart new energy vehicle (NEV) brand. This initiative adds to GAC’s existing lineup, which includes GAC Aion, Trumpchi, and Hyptec. The partnership focuses on combining Huawei’s advanced technology with GAC’s manufacturing expertise to drive innovation in research, development, marketing, and after-sales services.

Gac And Huawei Collaborate To Launch Premium Smart Energy Vehicle Brand

The collaboration mirrors Huawei's ongoing partnerships under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), which includes other joint ventures such as Aito, Luxeed, Stelato, and Maextro.

Renewed focus after past setbacks

This partnership marks a significant step for GAC and Huawei, especially considering earlier hurdles. In 2022, GAC temporarily suspended its joint project with Huawei, citing a lack of need for a new brand. However, the two companies later worked on the AH8 model under GAC Aion, leveraging Huawei’s full-stack smart vehicle solutions and a shared digital platform.

In 2023, GAC pivoted to developing the AH8 model independently, with Huawei participating as a key supplier. Despite these shifts, the renewed partnership signals both companies’ commitment to advancing the smart vehicle industry.

Diverse range of upcoming models

GAC’s ambitious plans include the launch of seven new models by 2025, covering electric, hybrid, and range-extended vehicles. These will form a significant portion of GAC’s goal to achieve over 60% NEV sales by 2027.

In collaboration with Huawei, GAC Trumpchi plans to release three high-end models, including SUVs, MPVs, and sedans. These vehicles will integrate Huawei’s HarmonyOS cockpit and Qiankun ADS 3.0 driving systems. Meanwhile, GAC Aion and Hyptec will focus on models equipped with advanced range-extender technology.

A glimpse of what’s ahead

The partnership recently showcased the GAC Trumpchi 1 Concept, a large vehicle measuring over 5.1 meters in length. This concept car reflects GAC’s third-generation design principles and includes Huawei’s state-of-the-art intelligent systems. The production version is expected to debut in the first quarter of 2025.

This renewed collaboration between GAC and Huawei underscores the growing emphasis on advanced NEV solutions, with both companies aiming to set a new standard for the future of smart mobility.
